Yes, this book is outdated, but it is still a great read on the historical aspects of "underground" radio. I learned quite a lot of new things about signals that I was already aware of through this book, and learned about several others that I had never heard of before.The author, Don Schimmel, is a well-regarded figure among radio amateurs and a quick web search of his name will bring you to his website (check out Radio Intrigue with Don Schimmel). There, you will find all of Don's latest finds in the world of the unusual, including numbers stations, clandestine military signals, strange beacons, and all manner of odd and unusual utility stations that one can find using a shortwave radio, patience and a little bit of luck.
a bit outdated, yet still very interesting
This is a neat book, but it needs updating big time. AT its price, however, you can't really complain. I'd love to see a real directory type directory of these stations but that can't be done until information in this book and around the world is updated regarding which stations are still on, which have disappeared, changed or adding information about new ones. Get on it!
